How to determine the moisture of a corn field.
This is an important process as it determines whether a harvesting crew continues cutting the corn or not. If the moisture is in the ideal range: 69-70% dairymen and farmers are happy as clowns, if above they start to freak out and then harvesting is halted until the corn dries out. If below, they are not happy either...so it's my job to take "samples," about three handfuls, of this ground up corn and put it on a cooker to determine its moisture. Here is the tedious process:
Watch and Learn:
Basket is weighed

Corn placed in the basket (100grams)

Corn placed on a cooker for 35mins or a little more

Basket with dried out corn weighed again

The difference from the precooked corn to the dried corn is the % of moisture. Gee, don't you feel smart now!?
Oh and if you ever wonder where one who weighs trucks works, here's a little snippet of "my office" from one of the dairies.

I heart working!
